USG Publishes Proposed Rules for ‘‘Specially Designed’’ Under ITAR & EAR

The U.S. Government has released two proposed definitions "setting forth, as much as possible, a common definition of the term ‘‘specially designed’’ for use in the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)." 

The announcements were published published on June 19, 2012 in the Federal Register and is part of the Obama Administration's ongoing effort to reform the U.S. export control laws and regulations. The State Department proposed rule is available for review here, while the Department of Commerce proposed rule is available here. Public Comments are due by August 3, 2012.
